I wrote my first poem at age seven. As I am extremely proud of this piece, I'll reprint it here.
Wobbly The Pumpkin Witch
Wobbly the Pumpkin Witch
Fell off her broomstick
Into the ditch.
She lost her cat along the way.
Wobbly had a very bad day.
After a 50+ year hiatus, I am writing poetry again. It feels great! I write for many reasons: to say things I can't say in conventional conversation (I'm woefully inhibited), to be creative, to connect with other people, and to heal my soul. I also write poetry to be playful and have fun, as you can see from some of my more cheeky pieces.
I am a former special education teacher and professor of education. I spend a lot of time thinking about things and too much time wondering if I am doing the aging gracefully thing right. When not writing poetry, I can often be found in the lotus position pretending to meditate. I divide my time between Ann Arbor and Key West (lucky girl), and my husband and dog are still speaking to me after all these years.
